SPACEPORT ENGINEER, SPACEPORT INTEGRATION
As a member of the Spaceport Integration team, you will be directly responsible for coordinating spaceport development projects with all external and internal departments at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and Kennedy Space Center (KSC).
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring launch pad systems and facilities designs are of high quality to enable timely approval by the Spaceport Authority (CCSFS's or KSC's Safety and Construction Approval Teams). This role will also be responsible for managing third-party review of SpaceX's facility designs, as well as any required inspections of facility or launch pad buildouts. You will be SpaceX's interface to the Spaceport Authority and responsible for tracking construction and operational approvals. This role is critical to ensuring safe design and the ability to execute a demanding schedule to meet SpaceX's goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interface with multiple internal technical groups of engineers, external architects/ engineers, and 3rd party licensed professionals to organize regulatory package deliverables and ensure it meets the highest quality of rigor to achieve acceptance from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) of the project
- Partner with cross-departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details for all pad or facility needs
- Perform quality check of design drawings and documents for architectural and engineering construction projects, as well as managing third-party inspection of facility or launch pad buildout
- Manage the full lifecycle of the permitting processes across all SpaceX projects on CCSFS and KSC
- Maintain a positive relationship with the SpaceX end user, contractors, and the Spaceport Authority to ensure effective execution on all projects
- Communicate permitting schedules internally to inform project timelines and escalate issues, as well as clearly communicate permitting need-dates externally to ensure alignment
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in architectural engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture
- 3+ years of experience creating architectural, structural, civil, or MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) construction documents
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R), concrete, framing, and industrial gas trade
- Able to read instructions and blueprints
- Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities
- Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment with little direction
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
- This position is based at Kennedy Space Center, FL, and requires being onsite – remote work not considered.
- Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required
