SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

TECHNICAL SATELLITE POLICY ANALYST

One of the most ambitious missions that SpaceX has undertaken to date, the Starlink satellite constellation is our solution to providing fast and reliable internet to the entire world. Our customers currently include teachers in the most remote parts of the Amazon, researchers in Antarctica, digital nomads who travel via RV, emergency responders, commercial airlines, cruise lines, and residential users who live in more rural or developing areas. As we continue to upgrade and expand the constellation, we’re looking for best-in-class analysts to join the team.

Telecommunication is a heavily regulated business. SpaceX needs optimized policy strategies that ensure upcoming regulations protect Starlink's future and enable growth. As a member of the Starlink Regulatory Team, you will apply technical expertise and ingenuity to pioneer solutions for our continued co-existence with global government spectrum users.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As SpaceX acquires new radio frequency (RF) spectrum, identify where enabling service requires us to navigate complex interference environments
  • Build-out actionable plans with SpaceX engineers to model ways Starlink can share spectrum, then test and validate your proposals
  • Evaluate FCC and ITU regulations to analyze whether they require updates or modernization
  • Participate in ITU Working Group discussions where Starlink advocates at domestic and international levels for optimized rules
  • Engage with Federal agencies and build solid relationships that encourage better collaboration
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership of projects, and responsibility for success

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Business Analytics or other STEM field
  • 1+ years of experience in technical writing

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstratable impact on the outcome of a product or service
  • 2+ years of experience in developing policies that required approval from top management of the organization
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, R, or other programming language for modeling (e.g. Monte Carlo analysis, random variable statistics)
  • Hands on experience with frequency and time domain data
  • Working knowledge of RF transmission, modulation (AM, FM), and digital electronics

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is based in Washington D.C. or Redmond, WA and requires being on-site. Remote work is not considered
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of a month

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Technical Satellite Policy Analyst: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00/per year
