About the data science team
The data science team empowers Thumbtack to use data to guide business decisions. We collaborate with partners across the company to solve the most analytically challenging problems -- everything from how we set prices across hundreds of local services categories, to evaluating the impact of a new business model on company performance, to identifying early predictors of high-quality customers. We are a tight-knit, intellectually curious team that is committed to improving Thumbtack and improving each other.
About the role
At Thumbtack, we’ve built a highly analytical, data-driven Marketing program that combines quantitative insights, advanced technology, and human creativity to attract and retain customers. As Senior Manager Data Science, you’ll lead our team of data scientists focused on driving measurable growth across acquisition, engagement, and retention initiatives.
You’ll partner closely with Marketing and Growth leaders — including teams across lifecycle marketing, web conversion optimization, SEO, and personalization — to define and execute a rigorous analytical agenda. Your leadership will ensure that our marketing decisions are powered by data, experimentation, and clear business impact.
You’ll also grow and mentor a team of marketing data scientists embedded within a Marketing organization known for its commitment to analytical excellence, innovation, and accountability for results.
What you'll do
- Lead the analytical vision, ensuring that data, experimentation, and measurement rigor power decision-making across acquisition, engagement, and retention. Define and evolve the metrics, methodologies, and experimentation frameworks that guide growth initiatives.
- Define and apply appropriate metrics, measurement methods, and experimentation processes to power a technologically-sophisticated, data-driven program
- Influence senior executive thinking and decision-making through credibly representing both the marketing, product and the DS points of view
- Partner with our Finance, Business Analytics, MarTech, Applied Scientists, and Marketing teams to drive corporate reporting, forecasting, and planning across our integrated marketing programs
- Collaborate with analysts and engineers to develop and improve our marketing analytics infrastructure, including data pipelines and predictive models
- Manage, mentor, coach, inspire, and recruit a team of high-performing marketing data scientists
- Work closely with other DS leaders to evolve and continually improve Thumbtack’s analytics culture in a high paced growth environment
In order to be successful, you must bring
- 7+ years of analytics experience with 3+ years of management experience
- Proven track record of business impact in driving analytics for a growth, performance, direct response, or other ROI-goaled marketing program
- Strong analytical and technical skills, with a willingness to be hands on
- Experience applying experiments, lift tests, attribution, and other measurement techniques to measure and optimize the performance of marketing campaigns
- Effective analytics management skills: you know how to prioritize the highest-impact work, and how to effectively coach and empower a team of analysts
- Strong communication skills and ability to build strong relationships cross-functionally and with senior leadership
