About the Public Relations Team
We’re a close-knit PR team within Thumbtack’s Brand and Comms org. We work hand in hand with teams across the company — from Product to Partnerships to Marketing — to tell the Thumbtack story through media outreach, brand partnerships, data and trend storytelling, thought leadership, and more. We’re collaborative, nimble, and scrappy, always looking for new and creative ways to share the voices of our pros and homeowners and showcase what makes Thumbtack unique.
About the Role
We're looking for a seasoned communications professional to join our dynamic team at the intersection of corporate storytelling and consumer brand building. In this role, you'll drive impact across Thumbtack's most visible moments — from product launches and data storytelling to executive visibility and brand partnerships — working alongside a collaborative team and trusted agency partners.
This is a part-time, flexible position averaging around 20 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate week-to-week and roll over as needed based on workload and key company moments, giving you the flexibility to adapt to the business while maintaining work-life balance.
What You'll Do
- Help manage our agency relationship and oversee day-to-day PR execution — ensuring alignment across corporate, consumer, and executive visibility workstreams.
- Proactive storytelling and media outreach around Thumbtack’s company news, product launches, and seasonal data insights.
- Support corporate communications initiatives including executive thought leadership, new C-suite hires, and narrative development.
- Partner cross-functionally with Brand, Partnerships, and Data teams to shape earned storytelling moments and ensure message consistency across channels.
- Contribute to consumer PR programs by supporting data-driven campaigns, partnerships, and expert/pro features that highlight Thumbtack’s trusted pros and homeowner community.
- Provide strategic counsel on emerging or sensitive issues and help manage adhoc needs as they arise.
In order to be successful, you must bring
- 7–10+ years of PR or communications experience, ideally spanning both corporate and consumer programs (Experience in tech, marketplace, or consumer services industries preferred).
- Proven ability to manage PR agencies, shape media narratives, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, coordinate across teams, and move projects forward with clarity
- Comfortable working closely with executives and able to communicate with clarity, confidence, and discretion at all levels of the organization.
- Strong relationships with business, tech, and home/lifestyle media — and the instincts to craft stories that break through (exceptional writing and message development skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling stories).
- Comfortable working cross-functionally and independently — you’re equally strategic and execution-minded.
- Must be eligible to work as an independent contractor in the U.S.
Compensation
- Rate: $120–$130 per hour, depending on experience and final scope of work
- Benefits: This position is not eligible for Thumbtack benefits
