Maintenance Assistant Manager
Job Summary
The Maintenance Assistant Manager leads day‑to‑day maintenance operations in a multi‑shift manufacturing environment, ensuring high equipment reliability, facility performance, and strict safety compliance. This hands‑on leadership role supports production and facility systems while driving continuous improvement in equipment uptime, cost control, and team performance.
Essential Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Supervise 4 Team Leaders and 10 Maintenance Technicians across 3 shifts
- Manage 2 MRO Purchasing Clerks
- Develop, coach, and support maintenance personnel
- Oversee staffing levels, training, and overtime alignment with budget
Maintenance Operations
- Lead daily preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities
- Improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime using data analysis and Kaizen methodologies
- Prioritize maintenance requests, allocate labor, and ensure timely completion of work
- Coordinate with engineering on new equipment installation and commissioning
- Manage MRO purchasing and spare parts inventory to ensure availability and cost efficiency
- Supervise external contractors and service providers
- Control departmental spending within approved budgets
- Perform other duties as assigned
Facilities and Systems Oversight
- Production equipment (Injection Molding, Assembly, Painting, Warehouse)
- Compressed air and chilled water systems
- HVAC systems and building infrastructure
- Overhead cranes and material handling systems
- Electrical, plumbing, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems
- Warehouse equipment, racking, and all buildings/grounds
Safety and Compliance
- Lead, enforce, and continuously improve the maintenance safety program
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA and internal company standards
- Promote a proactive, safety‑first culture across all shifts
Qualifications
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment
- 2–3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong technical foundation in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Experience troubleshooting PLCs (Omron and/or Allen‑Bradley preferred)
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance planning
- Demonstrated success leading teams in a multi‑shift operation
