Hours: 35-40 hours/week, October through December, 7am-3:30pm M-F
Location: 16th Street Factory
Department: Warehouse and Logistics/ Chocolate Production
Report: Inventory Control and Packaging Manager, dotted line to Chocolate Production Manager
Wage: $24-$25/hour

About Us
Dandelion Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in San Francisco’s Mission District. We make chocolate from only two ingredients, cocoa beans, and cane sugar, and travel to origins as often as possible to build good, trusting relationships with the producers who grow and ferment our beans. Our business is built upon trust and partnership, and now we’re looking for a Seasonal Receiver and Loading Dock Associate to assist with inventory, oversee products shipped and received, and ensure that the team is supported in order to do their best work during our busiest season.

About the Job
As our Seasonal Receiver and Loading Dock Associate, your morning might start by doing a quick sweep to ensure that all walkways are safe and accessible before breaking down boxes and taking them out to the recycling area. After that, you help unload a delivery of supplies that has come in and get the palettes stored away in the correct places. When you have some downtime in the afternoon, you assist with box building for the production teams so that they are well stocked. Finally, in preparing for the pallet pickup the next day, you organize and palletize several pallets of finished product from different teams, to be sent away to our offsite cold storage facility. Ultimately, your goal is to keep the loading dock space functional, efficient, organized, and safe, so our teams can have a successful holiday season! This seasonal position starts at $24/hour with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 7am-3:30pm.

About You
Our ideal candidate is someone who prioritizes safety, attention to detail, organization, and clear communication. You are comfortable in a warehouse setting and can work effectively both on a team and independently. Nothing makes you more satisfied than when everything is labeled, tidy, and put away in its proper place. You are constantly looking for ways to improve the loading dock area to make it more effective and efficient. You will know that you are doing a good job when inventory is always kept at or above minimum par, the space is organized, items are easily accessible, and the team always has what they need to do their best work.

Responsibilities

  • Physicality - This role involves standing, bending, stooping, and lifting daily. From wrapping pallets to operating a pallet jack, you must be comfortable working in a highly physical role that involves standing, walking around, lifting, and bending.
  • Inventory - Under the supervision of the warehouse team, track, report and restock physical inventory levels each day. Ensure that items are being circulated using the FIFO (first in, first out) system. Assist with cycle counts.
  • Organization and safety - Ensure that the loading dock is clean, organized, orderly, and that food storage areas comply with all safety regulations. Break down boxes, take out garbage, and move pallets to ensure that the space stays tidy and safe.
  • Support tasks - You will also complete support tasks to help the team do their best work. This may include breaking down cardboard boxes, and restocking supplies, and building boxes for the production team.
  • Palletizing - Ensure that all shipments are palletized and wrapped in preparation for pick up throughout the day.
  • Support Delivery Driver - Support Dandelion driver in loading and unloading his vehicle
  • Prioritization - Ability to prioritize daily tasks. You will likely get many urgent, last-minute requests. You should be able to take care of the tasks that need immediate attention while also keeping in mind your day-to-day responsibilities. You can seamlessly transition between various unrelated tasks without compromising quality.
  • Communication - Maintain open communication with people on your immediate team and others in the organization.
  • Team skills - You are a team player, and people want to work with you again and again.
  • Other tasks as necessary

Requirements

  • Available from Monday-Friday from 7am-3:30pm from early October through December
  • Excellent attention to detail and a mind for keeping spaces organize
  • Able to work independently, prioritizing work to meet deadlines, and help the team achieve goal
  • Knowledge of and adherence to food safety compliance and protocol.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs. This is a highly physical job.
  • Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment such as a pallet jack and dolly
